Panel Discussion “Post COP15”
The panel discussion will explore the implications of the failure of COP-15 to produce a global agreement, and how the Kyoto mechanisms that promote technology transfer, such as the Clean Development Mechanism and cap and trade systems, could be improved to achieve global progress on carbon emissions. The panelists will describe the post-COP15 situation in the US, Europe, China and Japan - which are together responsible for 60% of current emissions. They will respond to questions from AGS students who attended the COP-15, and from the audience.

Panel Discussion “Adapting to the ageing society: what does it mean for sustainability?”
Extended life is a new global phenomenon occurring in the same time frame as the push for a carbon-neutral society. By 2050, over a third of the populations of Europe and Japan will be over 65, and the US population aged over 65 will double. At the same time, these societies must make drastic changes in the use of energy and natural resources. The panelists will try to answer the question: what are the implications of the demographic transition for sustainable development?
